What AI Automation Agencies Charge in 2026

What AI Automation Agencies Charge in 2026
November 4, 20267 min read

Published 2026 prices put an AI automation build at $2,500 to $15,000 or more, an ongoing retainer at $500 to $5,000+ a month, and AI consulting at $100 to $450 an hour — figures from Digital Agency Network's 2026 pricing guide, as reported by Virtustant on 26 October 2026. In Dubai, the agency CrankUp publishes AED prices on a page dated 2 April 2026: a WhatsApp AI chatbot at AED 5,000 to 8,000 to build and AED 1,500 to 3,000 a month, a custom AI agent at AED 8,000 to 20,000 to build and AED 2,500 to 5,000 a month. Most agencies publish nothing. Here is what sits behind those numbers.

You are buying three things, not one. Virtustant splits automation cost into build, run and extend. Build is mapping the process, writing the first version and testing it on real data — it happens once per workflow. Run is watching failed executions and fixing breaks when an app changes its API, and it happens every week for as long as the workflow lives. Extend is the next process your team asks for once the first one works. A quote that prices only the build is quoting a third of the job. The useful question to ask any agency is which of the three their number covers, and what the other two cost.

Setup fees scale with company size, not with difficulty. Taskip's 2026 pricing guide puts one-time setup at $1,500 to $5,000 for a small business, $5,000 to $20,000 for mid-market and $20,000 to $100,000+ for enterprise. Its fixed-price band for a single defined build is $3,000 to $20,000. The spread inside each band is mostly integration count. One trigger writing to one CRM is a day of work. The same trigger routing through an approval step, a legacy ERP with no modern API and a fallback path when the model is unsure is several weeks. Before you compare two quotes, make sure both were scoped against the same list of systems.

Retainers are priced for the run, and most buyers overestimate what they include. Taskip's monthly bands are $500 to $1,500 for a small business, $1,500 to $4,000 for mid-market and $3,000 to $8,000+ for enterprise; its productized band is $1,500 to $5,000 a month and its hybrid band $2,000 to $6,000 plus variable usage. Do the division before you sign. Against the published $100 to $450 hourly consulting band, a $2,000 monthly retainer buys roughly twenty hours of senior time at the low end and under five at the high end. If the agency will not say how many hours or how many change requests the retainer covers, you are buying an unknown.

Hourly work is the honest middle option. The same published guides put AI consulting at $100 to $450 an hour. Virtustant also read Upwork's listing of US Zapier developers and reports profile rates of $35 to $200 an hour, with most between $60 and $100. That gap is real and it is not only skill — an agency rate carries project management, documentation, cover when one person is unavailable, and someone who answers at 2am when a workflow stops. A freelancer at $80 an hour is excellent value for one workflow or an audit, and a poor choice for a system your revenue depends on. Pick by how much the thing breaking would cost you.

The UAE market prices by system type. CrankUp's Dubai page lists an automation pipeline at AED 5,000 to 15,000 to build and AED 1,000 to 4,000 a month, and a BI dashboard at AED 8,000 to 18,000 to build. It also names three costs that land outside the headline fee: Meta's WhatsApp Business API charges, put at AED 200 to 500 a month for a business sending 1,000 conversations; AI model usage at AED 300 to 800 a month for typical SME volume, climbing past AED 2,000 for high-volume senders; and maintenance updates at AED 500 to 1,500 each where they are not included. The same page sets this against an all-in UAE admin hire at roughly AED 10,000 to 14,000 a month. That comparison is the one most UAE buyers actually need.

Software is always on top. No agency fee includes your platform subscriptions. Zapier's pricing page lists a free tier at 100 tasks a month, Professional from $19.99 a month and Team from $69 a month, with the price rising by task tier; its Agents product is $400 billed annually for 1,500 activities a month. n8n lists Starter at €20 a month billed annually for 2,500 workflow executions, Pro at €50 and Business at €667, self-hosted only. Make bills in credits, where most actions consume one credit. All three pages were checked on 4 November 2026. These are your accounts, in your company's name, and they should stay that way.

Model usage is metered separately again. If the workflow calls a language model, you pay per token on top of everything above. Anthropic's pricing page, checked on 4 November 2026, lists Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100K, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 and $10. Web search runs $10 per 1,000 searches. OpenAI's API pricing page, checked the same day, charges its web search tool at $10 per 1,000 calls plus the retrieved content billed at model rates. Small per-call numbers, but they move with volume, which is exactly why a flat quote with no usage cap tends to get revised later.

Now the objection: is this just a Zapier reseller? Sometimes, yes. If an agency charges $6,000 to build something that is four Zapier steps and a prompt, you are paying for a weekend. The test is not whether they use Zapier, Make or n8n — good teams use them because rewriting a retry queue from scratch is waste. The test is what happens at the edges. Ask to see a running workflow fail. Ask how the system recognises a case it should not handle alone, how it hands that conversation to a person, and where you read the log of what it said. Ask what happens when an upstream API changes its field names. Those answers separate a system from a demo, and they are what the fee is for.

What a quote has to itemise before it is comparable. The list of processes in scope, with the weekly volume of each. The systems being connected, named. Who owns the platform accounts, the model API keys and the WhatsApp Business account — these should be registered to your company, with the agency given access. What the retainer covers in hours or change requests, and the rate beyond that. Whether platform and model usage are billed through the agency or direct to you. The handover: can you export the workflows and keep running them if you part ways. A quote missing the ownership line is the one that costs you most later, and ownership is worth settling in writing before the build starts rather than after the first disagreement.

When you should not hire anyone. If the process happens five times a week and takes ten minutes, the arithmetic rarely works at any of the prices above. If nobody internally can describe the process end to end, a build will encode the confusion. If the real problem is that two teams disagree about who owns a step, automation makes the disagreement faster rather than smaller. Start with one process that runs often, follows rules most of the time and annoys someone every day — and if a Zapier Professional plan at $19.99 a month solves it, buy that instead and spend the agency budget on the next problem.

WebVerse Arena is a Chennai-based studio that designs and builds websites, apps, SaaS products and AI automation for clients in the UAE, the US and India. We work remotely across time zones and hand over code and accounts to the client. We do not publish price bands, because a number before scoping is a guess: we quote after a short call where you walk us through one process and its weekly volume.
